1Intro
Most of the portable devices I review are made from plastic. It’s always a treat for me to get my hands on something solid that’s built to last. Having previously reviewed the big brother to this Loftek portable flood light, I knew exactly what to expect. A powerful and robust product, so let’s find out if lived up to my expectations.
2Design and Build Quality
The 15W Loftek portable floodlight comes in a plain box with a closed cell foam inner for protection. Accompanying the product is a three foot long USB cable, a user guide and warranty card.

The main housing appears to me made from cast aluminum with a really thick powder coated matte black finish. There’s a formed steel stand that makes it easy to adjust the angle of the light. It also has a clearance hole on the base should you wish to screw it to a surface. Along with the stand, there is a spring steel belt clip riveted to the back of the flood light.
The control buttons and USB ports are positioned on the top of the unit. The Micro USB input and USB output ports are well protected under a silicone cover. I often see IP-rated devices with rubber covers that I wouldn’t trust at all. This one fits like a dream, so nail biters beware, you’ll have a tough time opening it.
Next to the ports are two control buttons and a battery indicator light. Both buttons require a two-second press to activate and a short press to cycle through modes or power off the device.
The buttons require a fair amount of pressure to activate, this combined with the two-second delay ensures it won’t be accidentally turned on.
The overall build quality is rock solid, the only potential weakness I can see is the glass lens over the LED. Tapping it with my nail has me thinking it might actually be polycarbonate rather than a glass in which case it should be fine.
3Features and Specs
As a Power Bank
The Loftek portable flood light features a 6600mAh battery that can be used as an external power bank to charge your mobile devices. Depending on the model of your smartphone you should get around 1.5 to 2 complete charges. This will, of course, reduce the run time of the LED light.
It charges at 5V with a maximum output of 2.1A making it suitable for most mobile devices including tablets.
Charging your phone while the using the flood light seems to have no effect on the strength of the beam. It features automatic identification technology to safely maximise the charge speed.

Usually, on a dedicated portable charger, you’ll have four battery indicators that tell you the remaining charge in increments of 25%. This unit just has a singular light that will flash red when low. It’s a slight shame there’s not a more accurate way of identifying how much juice is left.
As a Portable Flood Light
There are two brightness settings on the flood light – bright (11W) and crazy bright (15W). The beam is a cool white with an angle of 120 degrees and an effective range of around 20m.
On full brightness, the Loftek flood light outputs an impressive 650-lumens for around 4 hours. At the lower level of 380-Lumens, you should get about 7 hours.
The unit remains cool to the touch and will work in temperatures ranging from -10°C to +40°C (14°F to 104°F). The IP65 rating makes this ideal for outdoor use in poor conditions or indoors in dusty work environments.
The SOS mode
I’m not sure if having a bright LED light that flashes red and blue is entirely legal in the UK. If you put this on the dashboard of your car, you’d certainly attract attention but you might also get arrested for impersonating a police officer.
4Verdict
The Loftek 15W portable flood light is ideal for anyone looking for a powerful LED work lamp that doesn’t require a power source. It throws an impressive beam and the built-in external battery works really well as an emergency charger. Don’t be fooled by its low price, it doesn’t reflect the build quality of this product. It’s rock solid, works great and I can highly recommend it.
