Volutz Equilibrium Micro & Type-C USB Cables – Overview
99% of the devices we buy come with a charging or data cable included. From experience, about the same percentage end up failing or underperforming. The Volutz Equilibrium Series offers a solution to this problem with their range of cables designed to outlast and outperform all others.
That seems like a bold statement to make, right? Well, it turns out SpaceX has done the leg-work for us. They required high-performance data cables for their Falcon Rocket and independently tested all the leading cable manufacturers. Of all the cables tested, Volutz came out on top.
So, if they’re good enough for Elon, maybe, just maybe, they’ll survive the greatest challenge of all – Surviving as the PS4 controller charging cable, also known as the front room tripwire.

Volutz Equilibrium Series USB Cables
Both types of cables feature cloth braiding and colour coding. The Type-C’s also come with a convenient Velcro cable management strap. The vibrant colours make them super easy to identify and the connectors feel extremely durable on both ends.
Plugging them in feels reassuringly precise and they retain inside the port better than any other cables I’ve previously used. The long finger grip design of the housings make it very natural to pull the cable out the correct way.
The connectors are cleverly designed to be slim at the ends, this allows them to fit well inside phone cases and devices with limited space around the input ports.
Underneath the braiding, are two further layers of protective shielding to protect the wires inside. The data wires are 26 AWG and the power transfer wires range from 19 – 22 AWG depending on the cable length.
The Equilibrium cable is designed and tested to withstand 50,000 bends and Volutz claim it typically lasts at least twice as long as any other OEM cable on the market.
As mentioned in the overview, Volutz cables were chosen over all others to be used at SpaceX. This was fundamentally due to the efficiency of the cable and its ability to retain voltage.
Typically, the longer the cable, the less effective it will be. Both the Micro USB and Type-C 5-packs come with a 3m (10 foot) cable. I’m pleased to say that they provided a full speed Qualcomm 3.0 Fast Charge to my Galaxy Phone. Even more pleasing is the extra-long cable micro-USB cable charges the PS4 controller. This now means my boys no longer have an excuse to sit inches away from the TV to continue gaming on their PS4.
The 2m USB cable has been tested against the original 1.2m cable that comes with the Samsung Galaxy. Despite being 0.8m longer, the Volutz Equilibrium managed to charge 11% faster.
Data transfer via the Type-C to USB 2.0 could not be any quicker with speeds up to 480 Mbps. Replacing the existing generic Type-C cables with these ones have drastically improved the transfer speeds from my external SSD drives.
Having spent years constantly struggling with underperforming and unreliable charging/data cables, I finally have a solution. It boggles my mind that I didn’t do this sooner. The Volutz Equilibrium series cables are a god-send and I’m amazed that they’re so affordable. To get 5 premium quality cables for under $20 seems like a no brainer to me.
While it’s way too soon for the 10-footer to fully run the gauntlet as the Sony PS4 controller cable, both my kids are highly dedicated to the task. I guarantee they’ll put it under more stress than Elon and his SpaceX rockets ever could.
