Full Review – Presto Quick Charge 3.0 Power Bank
1Intro
Right now the world has officially gone Pokémon Go! crazy. It’s currently draining phone batteries faster than any other app in existence. Even the most forward thinking Smartphone manufacturers couldn’t have imagined their phones would be so sapped of life by this frenzy of activity.
This has undoubtedly boosted the demand for portable phone chargers as well as the frequency of their use. Choosing the best power bank to support your Pokémon Go! addiction comes down to a couple of important aspects. Firstly, you’ll need a portable charger that can add juice faster than the Pokémon app can drain it. Secondly, you need a power bank that can be recharged quickly once it’s depleted.
Currently the best solution out there has to be a Quick Charge 3.0 compatible power bank, preferably with a Type-C USB output. The new Tronsmart Presto portable charger has both these features, as well as an impressive 12000mah of capacity – Let’s take a closer look.
2Design and Build
Most power banks these days seem to favour a ‘soap bar’ design with very rounded sides and edges. Tronsmart have chosen a more traditional box shape, allowing it to be placed on its side when charging.
158mm (6.2 Inches) | 55mm (2.2 Inches) | 19mm (0.8 Inches) | 300g (10.5oz) |
The Presto is made from a rigid plastic that feels robust when pressure is applied. Its surface has a ‘fingerprint friendly’ matte finish with a glossy central logo and perimeter.
There are four LED battery indicator lights on the front face. These light up in non-glaring white to show the remaining charge in 25% increments.
The two charging ports are neatly recessed on the top of the power bank, and there’s a small power button on the right-hand side.
Its overall design is simplistic but functional, and in keeping with their other charging products. When placed next to their Quick Charge 3.0 mains charger, you can see a nice consistency in their product design.
3Features and Specs
12000mAh | Quick Charge 3.0 | DC 5V/3A | DC 5-6.5V/3A – 6.5-9V/2A – 9-12V 1.5A | DC 5V/3A |
The Tronsmart Presto Power Bank has a respectable 12000mAh capacity. This should provide approximately 4 full charges depending on your phone model. Its Type-C port provides both an output and input source for recharging. If you have a Type-C mains adapter, you’ll be able to fully recharge the Presto in under 6 hours. Not bad, but it’s a bit of a shame it doesn’t have a Quick Charge 3.0 input, as this would have been even quicker.
iPhone and iPad owners would need to use their existing lighting cables, the same applies to devices with regular Micro USB ports. The important thing to remember is that Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology is fully backward compatible. It will revert to QC 2.0, QC 1.0 or safety charge any mobile device with a USB input.
4Verdict
The Tronsmart Presto Quick Charge 3.0 power bank is good value for money and ideal for new generation Smartphones that feature Type-C USB and Quick Charge 3.0. For those of us still waiting for our next phone upgrade, its low price and backwards compatibility still makes it a wise purchase. It can be used as a regular power bank with your existing phone, while future proofing the charging speeds of your next one.
