QI wireless charging pads take the hassle out of charging your phone. You no longer have to fumble around for a charging cable or worry about jamming it in the wrong way round. Simply place the phone down on the powermat at the end of the night and your done.
Before buying a Qi wireless charging pad, it’s worth noting that many phones are not compatible out of the box (iPhones for example) There’s a Qi wireless charger guide and compatibility table at the bottom of the post, for those who are unsure.
Top Qi Wireless Charging Pads
1Samsung Wireless Qi charging station
The Samsung wireless Qi charging pad as seen on the Rita Ora TV commercial for the Galaxy S6. This Qi charger will glow blue during it’s charge and turn green once complete. One of the best looking charging pads available. The lights give it really futuristic look and also help notify you of the current status. If you happen to place your phone incorrectly on the charging pad, the lights will blink. As the phone charges, the light will transition from a deep blue to a lighter shade, before turning green. The Samsung Qi charger is available in black or white. -more info.
2EC Technology – Qi Wireless Charging Pad
The Ultra slim EC technology Qi wireless charging pad is only 6mm thick making it one of the thinnest wireless chargers available, with most others looking more like ice hockey pucks. This coffee coaster sized charging pad features intelligent induction to prevent overcharging with an automatic standby mode once the battery is fully charged. -more info.
3CHOETECH Stadium Qi Wireless Charging Pad
The Stadium Qi Wireless Charger Charging Pad by Choetech has an elongated shape which houses 3 coils as opposed to one to make positioning your phone easier than a regular circular shaped wireless charger. It should be noted that an AC adapter is not included, but most phone owners already have a ton of mains adapters kicking about, so that shouldn’t cause a problem. -more info.
4Anker Ultra slim Qi wireless charging pad
This Ultra slim Qi charger is made by Anker, who in my opinion are one of the leaders in quality charging devices. Every Anker device I have tested has been spot on, and this wireless charger is no exception to the rule. Very similar in size and design to the EC Technology QI wireless charging pad. One nice feature to this Anker Powermat is the LED indicator light which is designed to be far more subtle and less likely to cause a problem should you place the QI charger next to your bed at night. -more info.
5RAVPower Wireless Charging Pad
Much like Anker charging devices, RAVPower also make some really good quality products and rock bottom prices. This wireless charging mat, is basically the same shape and size as most phones and is also available in white. -more info.
6CHOE UPGRADED Qi Wireless Charger
The Choetech upgraded charging mat is available in black, grey, white or blue colours and has a square shape with rounded edges. This wireless charger is very reliable and has had a ton of positive reviews. It’s one flaw is the brightness of the LED, unlike the Anker charging pad, this one is too bright in my opinion. This isn’t a problem if the charging pad is going to be used in an office, but if you intend to place this wireless charger next to your bed at night, you will definitely need to wack some tape over the LED. -more info.
Wireless Charger buying advice
Before you buy a wireless charger you first need to know what type of phone you have. To help, I have placed an updated Qi compatibility list (Jan 2015) at the bottom of this post. If your phone is Qi enabled for direct charging, you can go ahead and buy a wireless charging mat and it will work straight out the box.
If your phone isn’t Qi enabled, all is not lost, you may still be able to charge wirelessly with either an internal wireless charging receiver or one built into the phone case. The compatibility list also identifies which method is most suited to your phone.
Compatibility list (Qi enabled phones)
The list below is a little outdated, but if you visit this page, you’ll get a list of 934 Qi enabled devices. There is searchable list, which is probably the easiest way to find out if your phone is suitable.
