1Intro

After reading an article on Wired.com about how the Mrice E300 earphones were comparable to Audiophile grade headphones costing over 20 times the price, I had to find out for myself.

The Mrice E300 in-ear headphones arrived through the post in a no-thrills retail box.  Included with the E300 is a basic plastic carry pouch and a bag or variable sized earbuds. No hand stitched silk cushion or fancy backlit pedestal to be found.

I do understand why leading brands in audio technology are happy to spend extra on presentation and celebrity endorsement.  It raises the expectation of quality and helps justify the ridiculous price tag [a dig at BEATS].

In the case of these Mrice E300 earphones, I actually think the opposite is true.  The basic packaging helps to make sense of how they can manage to sell a high-quality product at such a low price.

2Mrice E300 Earphones – Build Quality

The Mrice E300 headphones feature non-tangle triangular wire

The Mrice E300 earphones look and feel extremely well made, with notable features including:

  • Tangle-free wire – The 1.25m red TPE triangle headphone wire is lightweight yet highly durable. Over the last 2 weeks of testing these earphones they haven’t tangled once which has been a real pleasure.
  • Earbud design –  Most in-ear headphones have a standard transition from the earbud to the cord which usually involves a rubber retainer glued or pushed into place. These always seem to come loose over time.  The extended neck design of Mrice E300 earbuds has done away with the need for the retainer.
  • 3.5mm Audio Jack – This is typically the area where most of my earphones have failed in the past.  The gold plated Mrice connector seems to be far more robust and less likely to perish over time.

3Mrice E300 Earphones – Audio Performance

A close up of the Mrice E300 headphones - the best cheap earphones you can buy

I don’t claim to be an audiophile but to me these sound exceptionally good. I’d be amazed if anyone in a blind test, with no idea of the price or brand, were not convinced these were high-end earphones.

Here is quote from a review of the Mrice E300 by a professional DJ and music producer:

Specifications

  • CCAW driver units: 9mm.
  • Rated impedance: 16 ohm.
  • Sensitivity: 105dB.
  • Frequency response: 15Hz -22000Hz.
  • Distortion: <1% .
  • Maximum power: 30mW.

[pull_quote_center]A fantastic frequency range and a really beautifully balanced sound. When I A / B tested them I was quite shocked at how muddy the Sennheiser’s sounded in comparison. Quite frankly for the money, they sound incredible, but not just that, they sound better than a lot of earphones that cost 10x as much.[/pull_quote_center]

4Verdict

If you are looking for a set of quality earphones, the Mrice E300’s will save you a ton of money without any compromise on build quality or sound performance.  Is it really worth paying 10 times more for a brand name or a fancy box? I don’t think so.

mrice-e300-earphones-reviewYou get way more than you pay for with the Mrice E300 when it comes to build quality and audio performance. Designed to be durable and hassle free with the triangular non-tangle headphone wire, the Mrice E300 earphones should last for years.

  1. After reading quite a number of reviews I bought some, thinking “what have I got to lose for $15?”
Look, overall the sound quality is pretty impressive for the price – if you can get them to stay in your ears. Out of the 3 bud tips supplied, none of them fir my ears properly without me having to really jam them in to get a good seal. But then because the inline mic/volume control and the thingy that splits the wire from one to two are triangular, they catch on clothing and pulls the buds easily out of my ears.
Lastly, the inline mic/volume control doesn’t have any tactile buttons, so when wanting to quickly pause a track or adjust the volume I find I am pressing all three different sides of the triangle to find the buttons.
Sounds like I am just whining about the little things, but they all add up to a poor listening experience.

  2. Hi Mat, Too right, I’ve reviewed a ton of in-ear headphones over recent months, and these have to be one of the best. The sound awesome and never tangle, you can’t ask for more.
