1Intro

In recent years I’ve not been gaming that heavily, with the exception of FO4, which I’ve smashed over the last few weeks.  There was a time when I’d easily clock a solid 8 hours every evening playing World of Warcraft. Despite hanging up my hardcore gaming shoes, I still have a strong appreciation for the benefits of a good quality gaming mouse.

Having owned a number of expensive mice from the likes of Razer and Logitech I was keen to try a more affordable option. The HV-MS732 HAVIT mouse is vastly cheaper compared to my last Razer mouse but as I’ve learned from their Mechanical keyboard you shouldn’t judge a product solely on it’s price or it’s brand name.

2HV-MS732 HAVIT Mouse – Design and Build Quality

The HAVIT mouse review - The HV-MS732 professional gaming mouse - build quality

The build quality of this mouse certainly does not reflect it’s low price, it feels extremely robust and very well put together. There’s very little clearance to the sides or underneath the left and right mouse buttons, far less in fact than my Razer Deathadder. The buttons require just the right amount of pressure to achieve a click, fractional lighter and more responsive than the Deathadder. The top buttons have a very soft rubbery finish and a good contour to comfortably accommodate the fingers.

There are two programmable buttons on the left and a third on the top which are all easily reached. The 2 buttons below the scroll wheel by default are toggles for the 5 DPI modes.

The backlit scroll wheel, which has a rubber tread-like texture is very accurate, almost completely silent and has just the right amount of resistance.

The right side of the HAVIT mouse has a harder and slightly grainy texture as pictured above and is shaped perfectly to support the ring finger. Strangely the left side of the mouse has a different texture altogether, best described as leathery – in appearance at least.  The texture on the sides give the fingers and thumb more purchase and a better grip which I prefer over the glossy surface of my Razer mouse.

A view of the underside of the HAVIT mouse detailing i t's adjustable weighting systemThe underside of the HAVIT mouse is made from formed brushed aluminium with a very precise machined finish on the edges.  There are 4 smooth plastic feet, a small circular mode button, the sensor window and a large circular weight adjustment plug.

The weight plug is removed by rotating it slightly at tapping it out. Inside is a foam retainer that houses 8 individual metal slugs each weighing 2.5 grams. This allows you to effectively reduce the overall weight of the HAVIT mouse from 115 grams down to approximately 95 grams.

There is a very generous and flexible 1.8m long cable with a high quality black weave. The cable includes a Ferrite EMI suppressor and a gold plated USB connector.

The HV-MS732 HAVIT mouse will work straight out the box with limited functionality without installing the additional software drivers.  The default colour will be blue and the 2 buttons below the scroll wheel allow you to cycle through 5 DPI speeds.  The current DPI setting is indicated by the colour of the scroll wheel.

I usually make an effort to avoid bundled software whenever possible, however the HAVIT software that comes with this mouse is very lightweight (40mb’s) and highly useful.

Each of the buttons can be re-assigned or programmed with a macro. The software allows you to easily create complicated combinations of keystrokes.  These can be edited and fine tuned by tweaking the time delays to the nearest millisecond.

HAVIT mouse macro programming software

If you’re the type of person that really doesn’t like software in the background, you can set up your mouse to your preferred colour, DPI, macros and button assignments then stop the software from loading. The settings will remain in the memory of the mouse even without the program running.

4Verdict

I’ve been using this mouse for the last week and have found it an absolute pleasure. The sensor seems to work great on any surface I place it on and the quick DPI adjustment has proved extremely useful. I had intended to pass this HAVIT mouse on to my son, as I have a fully functional, but slightly grimy Razer Death Adder mouse that I’ve used over the last few years. As it turns out, the HAVIT HV-MS732 is far more comfortable and functional for both gaming and general use.  I particularly like the scroll wheel action and DPI adjustment when switching from games to AutoCAD.

If you were unaware of brand identity or price and placed this side by side with top end pro gaming mice, it would hold it’s ground or quite possibly outperform them.

  1. Bought Havit optical mouse. money thrown away. batteries last about a week, even when mouse is barely used. Just incredible how incompetent the company has to be in order to not being able even to build a computer mouse. just avoid them.

    • I have this mouse. It is actually pretty good. But I don’t know much about the Havit company but this mouse deserves a 9/10.
